A Society Machine Stops Snapchat

PictureVashti and Kuno from a 1966 adaptation of "The Machine Stops."
For your first discussion board posting, you read Virginia Woolf's story “A Society” and E. M. Forster's story “The Machine Stops” and responded to two of the following questions.

  1. How does the world of Virginia Woolf’s “A Society” function as a machine? What machine-like qualities does it have? What does this teach us about societies in general?
  2. What societies are in “The Machine Stops”? How do these societies shape the characters’ lives?
  3. How does each story imagine the future differently?
  4. How are the stories similar in their view of the future? Why does this matter?

Working in small groups, you will return to at least one of these questions and create at least one Snapchat video posting that combines texts and images to respond to it.

At least one member of the group should create a separate Snapchat account for this course and share the results with the instructor.
